Return of the prodigal
Those of you who have been here for a while may remember the amazing disappearing underling. Well, he's back. Sort of. Before he started working here, he was employed by our picking contractor. Now he's employed by our picking contractor again. After he left here, he got a job at a larger cotton property the other side of town, where he lasted three days. It's anyone's guess exactly what happened after that.
Apparently he's been in jail a couple of times and was in a fairly unsavoury state when said picking contractor rescued him from the gutter and dried him out.
I would have left him there.

Jeez - you're all heart!
well at least he's someone else's problem now
maybe the contractor will make him wake up to himself
Pud,
I am indeed the very soul of compassion.
Rat,
he's actually been allowed to drive the picker. $500,000 worth of machine and they let that ..., person drive it.
dirk - just curious - whats the hourly rate for benign no-hopers like your offsider these days? Include food, roof, bed?
I'd have left him to rot also...
But then again I am the soul of compassion just as you are!
FX,
it varies alot from contractor to contractor. I know that the last backpackers we had here were on $18p.h. That was a year ago, they had no experience on cotton, but came from farming backgrounds in Ireland. Included in that was their accomodation in the recently renovated single man's quarters, with everything except for tucker, but including pay TV. I would think that the underling would be on something similar, but with tucker supplied.
Ranger,
we should form a club. Or use one...
