Bigger, fatter, faster
The bloke came and put my satellite dish in yesterday when I was at work. Woo daddy, it's good. Previous to this I'd been on the world's slowest, most unreliable dial-up connection. Really slow; about9.6 kbps usually. Really unreliable; I could make a cup of coffee in the time it took to get connected, then it would drop out every time three crows landed on the wire. Not any more; now I'm on my way to having city style speeds; 512kbps download and 256kbps upload - not ADSL fast but still a lot better than I'm used to.
This is only a cheapo 'pooter, so it only has 256k of whatever you have 256k of, what I want to know now is, is this the new limiting factor on download speed and if so, how hard is it to hot it up a bit?
On a different subject, with my nbew-found bionic speed, I went on a bit of a blog-blitz last night; 81 of them, according to the tab thingy, didn't comment on hardly any of them, just had a look. Except that I tried to comment on this post over at Adrian's place. For some unknown reason it wouldn't let me post, so I'll try to remember what it was I was going to say and put it here.
Henry Rollins is, musically, a bit of a non-event as far as I'm concerned, the Rollins Band and Black Flag just didn't do it for me. He is also a pretty ordinary TV show host, although that might be more the fault of the show than the host. However, he is a pretty articulate guy and has a good sense of humour.I remember him decribing how he performed at the same festival in Germany as Marilyn Manson. Manson was on in the daytime, and had the full make up and smoke effects and things going, Rollins reckoned they looked like the Addams Family at a barbecue. Manson tried to whip up the audience but, according to Rollins, "Germans aren't big on audience participation these days, in the thirties..."
Any hoo, gotta go.

Oh, if you ever get a chance to see Henry Rollins doing a spoken word show, see it!
I admit I like his music, angry was something I could connect to for a very long time. But I had seen interviews and read a little about him, and saw him last year? (is it a sign of old age when you can't remember the years anymore?) at the Enmore. Just him up there for maybe 2 hours, and the whole crowd was mesmorised. He has a fantastic story-telling ability, he sweeps you up and takes you along, comfortable with the slightly self-deprecating humour, and then WHAM he drops you with such an emotional blow that you are left physically winded. I'd see him again in a flash.
Congrats on the new connection... new job, new ute, new i'net, things are very much looking up for you over the last 6 months! Now, get blogging, and spreading that cotton-pickin' good cheer about :)
I think your Rollins comment is over at Adrian's.
512/256 is faster than most city ADSL people have.
Esssentially there is nothing that you can do to your pc that speeds up internet speeds. 256MB of RAM is fine unless you are needing to run Photoshop and stuff.
Hooch,
now that I have a faster connection, it just means that I'll have different excuses for not blogging.
FXH,
that's weird, I posted the comment last night and I got some sort of error message, checked again this morning and there was no comment, go figure.
your comment is the first one up at adrians on Rollins / Black Flag
I used up my weekly quota of 'niceness' by not inferring what those other blog-distracting internet-related activities might be ;)
Hooch,
I live by myself.
Allthough my eyesight is fading...
